One of the toughest things we can do to overhaul our diets is to get the junk food out of it. It’s almost as if we are genetically programmed to prefer junk over healthy food sometimes! The problem is that food companies often pile in the sugar, fat and salt into their foods in order to make us want them more. These ingredients are highly addictive (sugar is known to be as addictive, if not more so than cocaine!). It can be really difficult to stop eating junk food. Here are some ideas to help you in your quest to eat better.
1. Bin the crap! The first thing you need to do is go through your cupboards and get rid of the junk foods. Find things which are loaded with sugar, and bin them (or give them to a food bank). Once you have gotten rid of the rubbish, take a look at your cupboards and see what you can replace with healthier alternatives.
2. Find healthy foods you love! One of the challenges for eating better is that we often don’t know which foods we like. Try a range of different fruits and veggies and find out which ones you really like. Try to include 1 or 2 new healthy foods each week until you have tried lots.
