Introducing Exercise in Order to Lose Weight

If you have been working on your diet to lose weight, you may find that your weight loss begins to slow down after a while.  This is known as a plateau.  You can become quite frustrated when this happens, as it feels like whatever you try doesn’t help you to lose weight!  One thing you can do however, is add some exercise into your life.

Cardio exercise is a great option for losing weight.  The types of exercise known as cardio include running, walking, skipping, swimming and any activity which causes your heart to beat faster.  the UK health advice is that we should aim for 30 minutes of cardio exercise each day, for a total of 150 minutes per week.  This is actually quite easy to achieve if you think about all the times when we have the opportunity to raise our heart rate.  Here are some ideas for cardio which you might not have thought of….

cleaning the house

walking to the shops

getting the stairs instead of the lift

getting off the bus a stop early and walking the rest

walking on the spot when the TV adverts come on

Dancing to your favourite music

playing with your kids
