The big quetion for so many of us in our middle era, between toddlerhood and being ancient . . . . is how to maintain our health whilst still enjoying life to the full. However it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom, missing out on fun activities or having just plain and boring vegetable all the time. Folk can concentrate on certain key areas first. Diet is critical, of course, as is physical activity, without which we could all be walking time bombs. Heart disease can creep up on anybody at any time and without keeping within the recognised healthier boundaries, our eating habits combined with the lack of movement, and enjoying a sedentary life will in the end create massive problems. There are good reasons for the prescriptions flooding out for blood pressure management pills and statins, which lower the natural cholesterol level, which is the simplest way of looking at this. High blood pressure is unnecessary – there are not many folk who cannot reduce their natural regular readigs with just a few small changes to their diet and physical movements. I know several older ladies who are convinced they can’t walk here or there or can’t do the stairs, because it hurts or they get too tired and breathless. To explain to them their lack of physical mobility over the years has directly caused their problems always falls on deaf ears and generally starts and argument in the ranks! Gentle persuasion and leading by example are the only ways to make changes!
